Minutes of the East River Amateur Radio Club May 3, 2010 Ryan?s Steakhouse, Bluefield, VA. http://www.erarc.com The May meeting was opened at 700pm by Lonnie Underwood KI4EED, ERARC President. There were 18 members and guests in attendance. Hooger Fisher W4OF, ERARC Secretary, read the April minutes and is taking up the last bit of monies for Sam?s Club membership renewals. (He went to Sam?s after this meeting and paid the bill). Roger Stefancic KC8LGR, ERARC Treasurer, gave his report including paying an $18.92 phone bill and reimbursing Don Anderson for the generator purchase at $332.49. Gary Kadar N8GK, ERARC VEC was asked about any new information from the VE team. Gary reported the team?s bank balance. THERE WILL BE AN ARRL VE TEST SESSION THIS SATURDAY AT 9AM AT THE MERCER COUNTY 911 CENTER IN GREEN VALLEY BETWEEN BLUEFIELD AND PRINCETON, WV OFF OF U.S. ROUTE 460. Jay Belt K8CTI gave a report on the repair of the 145.49- antenna and feed line. He and Don Anderson visited the site this past weekend and Jay climbed the 150? tower only to find that the antenna he was working on (at the very top) was the 442.45 antenna. He had cut the feed line off at the fitting and then had to replace the connector. While up in the air, he noticed that the ?49 antenna was on the ground within the weeds. The side mounts had broken their welds and Jay is trying to find a side mount kit and clamps to replace the antenna. Discussion. Gary Kadar made a motion, seconded by Harold Hodges N8NCP to OK the purchase of a side mount kit ($161.00) and clamps ($60.00) if Jay cannot find them otherwise (free or very cheap). Don Anderson said that the 911 Center has at least two 8? x 4? x 4? shelving units for the Club to use to store its antennas, feed lines, tenting, etc. He said that there is a three-ringed notebook at the site that will include everything that is being put on the shelving and dates, signatures, printed signatures, etc. of those placing items there and/or borrowing items. Discussion. We will make several runs from Bob Frazier?s storage area to the site in the near future. It was felt that waiting until Field Day to move stuff would be confusing and too far into the future. Don and Jay had talked about the remote base equipment at the ?49 site. The Doug-Hall interface ( http://www.dheco.com/rbi1.htm ), a Kenwood 2M radio and a Kenwood 440 radio have not been used in over three years. Discussion. It was decided to find pricing for the units and try to sell them as a package deal to someone who may be looking for a remote base package for their repeater system. Don is looking into pricing on these items. The meeting was over at 0740pm. Respectfully Submitted, George E. ?Hooger? Fisher III, W4OF
